I took out my new Tamron 1.4 TC (thanks honey) yesterday. It worked quite well. It does not report it's presence so the auto focus works just fine although it does hunt a little in low contrast situations. On these particular photos it had a tough time because I was shooting through a hole in the branches of a pine tree.

This is straight out of the camera. It is a photo of a fire lookout station on top of Buck Rock overlooking the Kings Canyon. I have been in the lookout and it is not a journey for the faint of heart. It is several miles away from where I shot the pic.

This is a 1:1 crop. I straightened it and gave it one sharpening pass in Picasa2.

I am not unhappy with the TC at all.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

Thanks, Nick. Although it will never challenge either the 400 L or 400 DO primes in image quality it does give me adequate IQ and equal reach in a package that is more compact than the older 75-300 IS or even the newer 70-300 IS. Great for travel.

Indeed Skip. As a travel lens it can't be beat! I've said it before but I'll say it again - as much as I love my 100-400 I still really miss the practicality of the DO. I'm impressed that it still AF's with the TC at f8 too.

I've got a Tamron 1.4TC and have had it for years - can honestly say it's a good bit of kit. I might even add it back into my signature!

I thought it was cheap and nasty but obviously I was wrong. LOL
