monitor calibration for my display

Ok I think this is the right forum. I have a ViewSonic VG1930wm, and I'm looking for a calibrator for it. I need to spend a crap ton of money for 1, just need a decent one that does what its supposed to do.

Any guidance ?

B&H seemed to have a good price on the colormunki and spyder4. You could just get the screen calibrator and not the kit to save some $ or find the version before these for cheaper somewhere (and you can always try to find a used one for sale)

Some years back I had the Eye One which was...........ok; user friendliness seemed be lacking IMO. Don't get be wrong. It was quite accurate but just seemed very labor intensive. I got the Spyder 4 last year and have been MORE than pleased with it on my new monitor. It walks you through all the steps very easily and gives you the options of complete recalibrations, tweaks and a few other things; well worth the money.

keep in mind, ViewSonic VG1930wm is TN panel.

Secondly, I see a Spyder4 express which I find for under 100 bucks. Is that a good one?

I believe the Pro and the Elite have Ambient Light measurement which is an excellent feature to have among several - it comes in very handy in my home office; I have the Elite.

I'm pretty sure the Elite does NOT have this feature. Check their site for a comparison of features.

TN: Twisted Nemetic. The type of panel.
Good for games, less so for color critical work, because of the lousy viewing angles.
