For the 1Dx - Any anyone know the page number in the Instruction Manual for the step by step instruction to install upgraded firmware? Or a website link with the instructions would be helpful.

I'm just not find it.

Thanks - Jon

It's really simple.

1) Download the firmware from Canon.
2) Unzip/extract the files.
3) Format your CF card in the camera.
4a) Remove the card and stick it into your card reader, or
4b) Plug the camera via the USB cable to your computer.
5) Copy the *.fir file onto the CF card's root directory (just 1 file), should be ~31mb in size.
6a) Remove card from card reader and stick it back into the camera, or
6b) Unplug your camera from the USB cable.
7) Turn on your camera (if not already on).
8) Push the Menu button and scroll through the menu until you see "Firmware x.x.x" (x = numbers).
9) Highlight "Firmware x.x.x" and push the "Set" button.
10) Follow the menu prompt to update your firmware.

The update will probably take ~5minutes so do NOT power down the camera. Let it finish updating on its own. Go watch some TV, troll the forums, go to the bathroom, take a shower, then come back. Staring at the progress bar will just make you nervous because it takes so long. :p

That's it. Oh, just make sure you have at least 50% battery charge before you start. You don't want to run out of juice while updating.

The instructions are always on the download page.

EDIT: - The used to be! - They are now contained within the downloaded zip file.

I didn't even download the updated firmware last night because the instructions were not on the Canon sight. Julian thank you for taking the time to type that out.

I did the firmware for my T3i last week, and the instructions were in a separate file when I downloaded and unzipped it.

The 'Update Procedure' is contained within the downloaded file.
