Hi all
Am curently in the market for a 100-400 and have seen one at £680. Now I know that this picture was taken with a filter on which apparently most people say degrades the quality especially on this lens. I know this image in question has front focused but as far as Im aware this can be rectified through micro adjustment or is this wrong.
Would you go for this lens, unfortunately the person selling has sold his camera so cannot take pictures and I live miles away so trying before I buy I can't do.

Many thanks for your help
Dex

are you ordering it in off of ebay or something? If you have the chance to, why not test it out see if you like it.

MA on zoom lenses is a bit of a compromise since the adjustment required can vary with the focal length. The filter problem is real, but I don't think it's a cause of front focusing (or any other focus problem).

£680 is a good price though, so if you can chek it out beforehand, it could be a good purchase.

Finally - this is a heavy lens and the IS is first generation and not hugely effective. Handholding requires a fast shutter speed, so check the EXIF on the sample image.

You need a pic example without a filter to gauge how good/bad the lens is. I've seen first hand just how bad a filter denigrates images on the 1-4. If the lens is still performing poor then a trip in for calibration may be on the cards. Mine went in, came back superb but cost £160 I think, so you need to bear that in mind when offering any monies for this lens.
As has already been said, make sure the shutter speed is 1/800sec + to eliminate blur.
