I recently pruchased a Tokina 12-24. I need to sell some of my overlapping lenses. I shoot landscapes, portraits and family and general photography.

I have:
Canon 50 1.8
Tokina 12-24
Tamron 17-50 2.8 non vc
Canon 17-85 is
Canon 55-250 is
Canon 70-200 f4l non is

I'm leaning toward selling the last three and getting the Canon 70-200 f4l is or
selling the Tamron,Canon 17-85 and 55-250 is and getting either Canon 24-105 f4l is or Canon 17-55 2.8 is

Thanks Mike

I'd sell the 17-85 and the 55-250 and get a Sigma 30 1.4. That's what's missing from your rig. A fast, normal prime.

What do you need? It seems like you're missing a wide prime. Personally, I'd sell the 17-85, 55-250, and 70-200, and get the 70-200 IS version. If you're not happy with the 17-50, I'd consider selling that for the 17-55 as well. You can also grab an 85 1.8 if you're looking for a better quality portrait prime.

After giving this some further thought I'm think I'll also consider selling the Tamron 17-50,17-85,55-250 and look into a 24'28-70,75 2.8 since that range works on frame.

^^^ Was going to be my suggestion

i agree with the others. sell the 17-85 and 55-250. and of the lenses youre thinking of getting, i would choose the 24-105. hard to say tho, 17-55 is great, and so is the 70-200. if you get the 24-105 you could also sell your tamron.
i just like the range of the 24-105, can cover a lot of things.

He's got a fast standard zoom, though.

Depends where is your emphasis. If you are into portraits a lot, and need a great lens for outdoor portraits, I'd dump

50mm f1.8
Canon 17-85 is
Canon 55-250 is

and either buy Canon 85mm f1.8, or better still add some cash and buy one of these two superb portrait lenses:

Sigma 85mm f1.4, or
Canon 135mm f2.0L

You will be blown away with these lenses' ability to blur background in full height portraits, while keeping you subjects perfectly sharp (the "3D effect"). Something like this (made with a cheaper, MF lens Samyang 85mm f1.4):

Dump the 50 1.8 and get a wide fast prime like 28 1.8. For portrait . Get the 85 1.8. You can also dump the 17-85 and 55-250 as you hv the 70-200
