Yepp, this is the original first version, the five other versions after this one all had plastic mounts, no DoF window, the micro usm and (to the specialists) not as sharp.

Lol.. pretty lonely in here... but i wont give up, this is a VERY nice lens with fast USM, metal mount, good sharpness and build quality.

Even old non L lenses are great, one of my favorites is the 35-80 4-5.6. Focuses fast and great studio lens. The fact that you can pick them up for $10-$20 is even better.

I just came across one today that was being used on an old Canon EOS 630. Can't wait to throw it on my T3i and see what it will do. It was 100% free and that is the best part about it.
