What's Causing This In This Picture?

Hello,

I took a picture inside of Chuck E Cheese and I noticed a blue light shining on my son's leg. My settings were f1.8 ISO 800 and shutter was around 1/100-1/200. I tried recreating it, but nothing, so what do you think caused it?

I'd say perhaps something that was on the video screen and then light was bouncing around oddly and it looks like it caused a flare in side the lens. I'd bet it was one of those "the stars align type things. Wouldn't worry too much about it. question though where you using a lens hood at all? I find sometimes even with light that's external but not coming in say at a 45 degree angle from the front it can still cause flares and a lens hood can usually block off the front element enough to prevent this.

Looks like the light shining from the screen to me. It's shining on his face as well.

It looks like this is a lens flare, from the bright window. The bluish blob extends beyond the legs - on the chair, and on the wall behind, so not likely a local source of blue light.

Was a filter on the lens? They tend to magnify flare problems.

Yes it looks like a lens flare. Were you using a lens hood?

If this is indeed a lens flare, hood most likely won't help, as the cause of the flare (bright window) is right inside the frame. To avoid it then you'd indeed have to use the hood and don't use a filter and make sure there are no too bright light sources inside the frame.

That's not from the blue LCD screens in front of him? I noticed it in his eyes as well.

The color of blue in his eyes looks like the correct shade of blue for indirect sunlight when you are shooting indoors with a tungsten white balance.

I think it's a combination. The blue on the face is probably from the screen.

The blue that is lower is lens flare from the windows. A cheap filter and some lenses will cause this easily, I would be interested to know what the lens setup was.
