I have the 100mm macro that isn't the 'L' version...and it takes amazing images. Does the 'L' version really look all that much sharper?

Personally I think it does. I used to have the standard version. The big difference for me is the IS. If I didn't have it I couldn't get some of these with the shutter speed / ISO combinations I use sometimes. That and the fact I'm using liveview to shoot these quite often which is where the IS really helps.

They are both fantastic lenses though.


Just curious, why use liveview mode? I can understand if you have to hold it higher than eye level, but some of those shots look head level.
