I was gonna guess that you were about 4 feet given the amount of the frame is filled up and how much of your subject is in it. I love the 50mm for informal portraits on my 20D, don't you? Great shot btw.. and the edit is really good.

I like it. It has a nice feel to it. That lens is great fun to use. I read an interesting article, I just cant remember where, from a portrait photog about using the nifty fifty. He basicly said he never uses anyting more because he liked getting close to his subjects.
One thing I noticed is it lookes like the subjects eye closest to the camera is slightly out of focus. USM helped, might I suggest fine tuning the focus manually to ensure you get the closest eye in focus next time.

What aperture were you using? Flash of any sort?

mtnbiker- Thanks for the tip. I am going to try to fine tune(manual focus) next time
scraggles-1.4 I thought it was 1.6 or 1.8.
