I looked at the reviews posted by many POTN members for the Vanguard Alta Pro 263at and found them to be useful.
Was wondering if it would hold the 7D or 5D3 with 100-400 L (my current heaviest lens)..
Also what head is recommended to go with it. SBH250?
Appreciate your response..

Legs should hold just fine with that combo, unless the center column is way off to the side. I've got the Gh-100, it slips a little with a gripped 7D, 580EXII and 16-35 2.8 or 70-200 f4, when it's rotated 90 degrees to the side for a vertical shot it wants to creep, but when it's not as loaded down the pistol grip is convenient (though not ideal for pointing upward without some finagling). But it's load rating is 13 not the 44lbs the sbh-250 is rated for and minus flash and grip I think I've weight the 7D and 16-35 at 8lbs.

Thanks.

When I use it sideways it will be only for macro and will use the 100mm macro, so looks good there.
