In Mission Bay, San Diego I captured this diving type bay duck feeding in the eel gress at low tide. According to the book they are Lesser Scaups. The first one is a male and second a female.

Paul Thanks for the comment Paul, the Greater Scaup male has a more rounded head, (Lesser more arched) the head color of the Greater is more dull green rather than the dull purple of the Lesser.
