Is it worth doing? TBH, I'm not bothered about video & have never used it on the 550d. I am perfectly happy with this camera & the quality of pics with the lenses I have (10-22, 24-105L, 70-200 f4L, 1.4X teleconverter, 50mm f1.4)
Am really after a dedicated "Camera". I mainly shoot transport & moving objects with Family thrown in as well

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Kevin

Kind regards, Kevin

If you are happy with it then I wouldn't change.

The photos you get won't be much different. The 60D has a slightly better noise profile. It has a hugely different feel. I really like the top-deck LCD, and the rear wheel control system. The AF system runs circles around the Rebels, too. I upgraded from T1i to 60D and sold the T1i because I didn't use it anymore. The 60D with a grip on it feels like a camera!

The upgrade won't be in image quality, it will be in how the camera feels and how much easier it is to control, with a thumb dial and two LCDs.

Yeah, your IQ will not change a lot, and you should only upgrade IF you think that you have hit the limit of what the Rebel can do for you from a photography and control perspective.

What the 60D will get you:

Pentaprism Viewfinder - Larger and brighter
Level - for handholding those horizon shots
Rear Wheel - Aperture and Shutter have dedicated wheels
Direct focus point selection - select a focus point with the 8 way dial (set button selects center)
1/3 stop exposure control - Including 1/3 stop Auto ISO
1/8000 shutter - twice as fast as the rebel for wide open shots in bright light w/o a ND filter
Larger battery - Goes for a much longer time
Faster FPS - 5.3
All cross type AF with dual cross on center at f/2.8 - Much more accurate, especially on the non-center points.
Flippy screen - more useful than you'd think
Top LCD - Can't live without this now that I've had it, or the direct access buttons to things like ISO

Many thanks. I am quite happy with the IQ of the 550 but have to say that the controls do annoy me somewhat.
If I was to purchase a dedicated flash for the 550 then I was wondering which to go for? Does the 550 have TTL? Have seen the Yongnuo Flashes & read the reviews which sound positive. But, Which one to go for???
I was also toying with the idea of a 7D but reading up on it, the 550 is almost as good as it???

550D has ttl. Yongnuo yn 465 is a good value flash. If your happy don't change. 60d is slightly faster with a better af but you may not need this if 550d seems good enough

As an original 600D owner; I would say your best bet would be to work with your current camera until a bigger jump forward seems good for you (Either to 7D if you just need the improved AF, wait till 70D or 7dmkii comes out; or jump to FF).

Regardless of anything else; you will see a bigger improvement in image quality moving toward flash photography or upgrading lens. I would honestly recommend a 430exii as an initial investment; and move forward from there (I have had bad luck with Yong flashes; 1:1 bad, where i'm 3:3 good on canon. Small sample size; but big enough to sour me)

The 7D's big advantages are an even better viewfinder than the 60D, 8FPS, and the advanced focus system. It requires compact flash cards though so you would have to change out all of your memory. I probably wouldn't upgrade to that unless you had a very specific use case where the 550D simply couldn't keep up (sports or high speed action).

The 430 EX II is a very good flash, although a bit expensive potentially.

What snakeman and everyone else said, the change will be all about ergonomics and controls. That said, I found the quick control dial alone worth the price of admission. YMMV.

The ergo improvements are IMHO worth it, but that's a personal choice far more than an IQ one.

This.

I had a T2i and got a 60d later. I prefer the 60d's ergonomics and controls. The viewfinder, better battery life, top LCD, shutter, are things you'll pretty much notice right off the bat and like more.
