I have both a 7D and 5Diii and prior to the 7D, it was a T2i. I really liked the 7D but made the switch to 5Diii based on all the reviews and excitment from the people here. I thought about selling my 7D since I probably will not use it much. There will be times on vacation that I will take it with me just in the event something happens to the 5Diii.

My opinion is that if you have it sitting around and don't sell it now, you will get less and less for it every day it sits. So sell it if you need the money, keep it if you don't or give it to someone you care about (my daughter now has mine). In no way do I think it is a bad camera - it was a great camera but the 5Diii is even better. I think the people that have the older cameras know they won't get much for it and it would be a hassle to sell. I still have a Sony PS2 somewhere in the house (I think).

Maybe you look at it as your go to-work-camera.

Seriously though, I think people give up on it b/c it requires more understanding and care to reach a complete level of comfort, along with good glass. I suppose some users have neither the patience or the glass to really bring the best out of it.

I agree with this explanation. Awesome flickr gallery by the way; stunning cityscapes.

There are a few, like you, who seem to perpetrate this thinking. Why not change your thinking and say, old = good, new = better as that is more accurate. It's not that the old becomes anything less than it was, but the new is an improvement over the previous model.

Me, perpetrate this. Did you not read my previous post. I own and regularly use a 10D and 20D. Please don't assume the way I think, or suggest I think different than the way you think I think:lol:

When I upgraded from the 5D2 to the 5D3, my 7D has seen little usage. In about 9 months I think I have shot about 300-400 images and that is all.
I only use it for my longer shots these days, although I have always loved the camera.

I have been toying around with the idea of selling it, but it seems that I have a hard time selling any of my stuff...:D

just a few of my thoughts...

I bough a lighly used 7D about four months ago (aobut 2,000 shots), I have added maybe 1000 shots. I think it is a great camera, I do not know why someone want to sell it. If going FF, then I would keep it (I did), it is probably the camera that got the best of the 1D cameras in a prosumer. That being said, the 1DIII has been in my opinion the best Canon camera, ever.

The 5d mrk 3 is a fantastic camera and at the momnet is "THE" camera to have. That is until the 5d mrk 4 comes out a few years from now. Then I'm sure at some point someone will create a post on " Why are there so many 5d mrk 3 's for sale!

I assume nothing, just reading your words. :). I too hate that argument and see it usually posted as you did, insinuating that the old turns to crap. Of course it doesn't, but the newer model is better. I'm not trying to make a bifg deal of this, just bored at work but it is in my top three pet peeves with the others being "It's not the camera, it's the photographer" and "It felt so small in my Paul Bunyan sized hands". ;)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

There should be some good bargains out there from people moving on from 7D, but an asking price of $800 - $950 is not uncommon, when they can be bought new for just over $900! Whilst the downwards pressure will hurt any seller who paid full retail for an early release 7D, it's a good time to buy...

Could you explain that a bit? Why would it take more work to understand than a 5D?
Thanks!

7d is not an easy camera to master so while Im sure there are issues with a particular number of cameras, normally issuses falls into the user error catagory.( sorry if I hit your pet peeve button.. :> )
A few weeks ago I had a friend shooting next to me with his 7d and it kept locking up after taking a few shots in a row. He had just upgraded from a 50d..He was starting to get pissed and frustrated. I tried it and sure enough it was locking up....I checked his compact flash card and it was a slow, cheap piece of crap card. I let him borrow my card and all was well.

I've no doubt the 5D3 is an excellent camera, however I haven't found anything that my 7D cannot cope with yet, so until some upgrade appears that brings me a cup of tea in bed and makes toast, I'll keep mine :D

For one the focusing system on the 7D is way more advanced than the 5d and 5d mrk2

There are many 7D cameras on sale, because people feel that's the only thing anyone would really buy. Not worth the hazzle of trying to advertise an old 5D... ;)

I have noticed a lot of 7D's for sale here, 4 plus a day here, but not many rebels or really 40/50D's...

Reasons?

It may be because of the prices they command. If I had a 7D now, and didn't use it much, I would put it up for sale here, because I would probably get about a grand for it. I could really use $1,000.

If I had a rebel, or a 40D, that I didn't use much, I probably wouldn't bother to put it up for sale, as I would only get a couple hundred bucks for it. A couple hundred bucks just isn't going to really help me much.

Hence, I think that there are a lot of the lesser cameras just sitting around unused, 'cause it just isn't worth the bother of selling if one is only going to end up with a couple hundred bucks.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Absolutely correct , nor the effort to learn the camera properly.
