The price will tank but only if the market gets flooded with 7Ds a) for sale by those who need cash to pay for the Mk II and b) those wanting to buy a 7D only want the new one.

That's economics 101 but I'm not sure what happened to the market value of the 5Dii when the 5Diii was announced, at its higher, introductory price.

I think a lot of people are dumping them in favor of going the FF route. I had a 5D2 and a 7D and when the rumors of the 5D3 started, I considered selling both in order to purchase the 5D3. When it was officially announced I figured I'd start by selling the 5D2.

After a few weeks with the 5D3, I still found enough use for the 7D to keep it. It is still a *very* capable camera. The crop affords me a bit better results for sports without having to upgrade to longer glass. I also have been very pleased with it for macro work.

Canon will have to wow me in order to sell the 7D for another model in the future!

I sold my 7D and kept the T4i / 6D combo. The T4i is a totally capable camera with L glass - it does have 9 cross type focus points and high iso shooting at 3200 is amazing - much better than my 7D. As a result I have a very happy friend with a 7D!

I was in a similar situation as Baggs said above. After buying a 5D3 in January with my hefty Wall Street bonus, I tried selling my 7D a couple of times. I got hosed on an eBay sale (buyer didn't pay), and after posting it here for a couple weeks I didn't get any PMs expressing interest. In the interim time, I decided to keep it. My dream was always to have a FF camera and a crop body, and now I have them.

I am interested in the iPhone-like interface of the T4i, though. Flicking through pictures and setting focus using the rear LCD seems cool. Forget that it's a consumer gimmick, I'd like to have that on my 5D3!

To me, considering price point and features the 7d is still an excellent camera to have. Doesn't the 5DIII have some inspiration from the 7D, mainly design. that's all I kept hearing in early reviews. So if it makes some people feel better to have the latest and greatest more power to you. You will spend the rest of your life playing catch up! Now to me there is a noticeable difference between 7D and 5DIII. But if you take your average consumer that are having an event photographed, be it wedding, senior pics etc. they would not complain about the quality they get from a 7D and a good L lens. I might get the 5dIII or I may not, being that this is just a hobby. But if I do, I don't think I'll get rid of the 7D anytime soon. Once again as far as BANG FOR THE BUCK! I think the 7D is an excellent choice. CLASSIC!

I think a lot of 7D owners are making the switch to the 5D3.

I think this is the (most common) case. Perhaps a lot of shooters who did not jump from the 7D to the 5D II because of the perceived downgrade of AF were all too happy to jump to the 5D III which offers both better IQ and better AF performance.

I take advantage of the 1.6 crop factor too much to switch to FF at the moment, so I'll be keeping my 7D until Canon shocks me with a APS-C replacement that offers significantly better IQ. I may be waiting a while. :)
