The $500 100mm macro from Canon, IQ was amazing, I planned to sell all my other lenses and get it for the IQ, but after the purchase I soon realized that on a crop it was pretty much unusable indoors. Had to take it back :(

For me, the 70-200 f4 non-IS. This was the first lens that really surprised me with its clarity and sharpness. Although I've used other great lenses since, it still takes something very good to be a major step up from pictures from the 70-200 f4. Apart from the quality of its glass, its a nice lens in other ways too - very compact and lightweight for the range it covers.

The first time I used my 70-200mm 2.8 non IS almost 7 years ago! It still delivers.

I've had two "Wow" moments with the same lens. My 70-200 F2.8 IS.

My first "Wow" moment was when I first got it and used it for sports in 2008. :)

My second "Wow" moment with it was when I found from Canon Repair Service how much it was going to cost to repair it after the zoom froze up on it this past
August. :(

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

45mm TS-E.

A ~50mm lens with no CA? Heresy!

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

The sigma 30 f/1.4. I used it almost exclusively on my 1D for over a year.

Same here and I had used 135L, 70-200mm f2.8 IS II, 300mm f2.8 IS I before that.

The 15-85 on my crop, after moving from the kit lenses. I loved that lens. Then it was a tie between the 40mm pancake, and the 24 f/2.8 IS. Again on crop. Just the combination of fast & accurate focusing, great colour rendition and nicely detailed images that did it for me :)

The kit lens  Of course that was my first lens on a first DSLR. Everything about it was a wow factor.

Has to be the Canon 70-200 F4L IS > Sigma 35 1.4 > Canon 17-55 in that order (from my lens collection).

10-22mm. The perspective, and quality of the colours was a lot higher than the 18-55mm kit lens I was using.

For me it's been the more extreme lenses:
extreme close up - MP-E65mm
extreme wideangle - 8-15mm f/4L
extreme telephoto - 600mm f/4L
They've all wowed me.

My 70-200 f/2.8 L. Its the sharpest lens of my collection, despite owning a 24-70 L which I would have expected to beat it.
