Straightening + Cropping

In Photoshop CS5 when I would use the straighten function my photo would automatically rotate and crop the photo. In CS6 all it does is rotate the photo. I'm sure there is a way to set CS6 so that it will rotate and crop the photo again like CS5 did. Does anyone know how to do this?

In my CS6, when I'm in the crop tool, I have a checkbox to "Delete Cropped Pixels", is that what you mean?

Maybe not what you wanted to hear, but Lightroom works pretty slick for this, and the histogram automatically changes to reflect only the pixels still remaining.

I may be missing something because I rarely use Straighten in PS, but after you draw the line to straighten I just hit enter.

Hitting Enter does nothing when I use the straighten tool. But if I click the button to straighten all it does is rotates the image leaving white areas on all 4 sides. I have to crop it manually. In CS5 it cropped out the white areas automatically after I straightened it.

I use both Lightroom and Photoshop. I use Photoshop for heavier editing (stuff I can't do in Lightroom).

Ah, I see it now. They changed it. They put Straighten in with the cropping tool. It may have been there before in CS5 but I never saw it before. I was used to it auto cropping with the straightening tool.

OK, I think I know what you're doing. Are you using the Straighten under the Ruler tool? If so, use the Crop tool and up at the top you'll see Straighten tool that should work better.

Exactly. I just found that. It used to do it automatically though when you used the straighten tool. I wasn't sure if there was something in Preferences I need to turn on or what.

It will take some getting used to. I just need to remember that if I need to straighten something I can do it with the crop tool now. Maybe they will do away with the ruler in the future.

Rotating and cropping are hardly "heavier editing".

It was one of the many things I was doing to a certain photo. If all I'm doing is color correcting, straightening, etc. Then I use Lightroom but if I'm doing all of those things AND using layer masks and such then I like to use Photoshop for everything.
