I currently have a 650D gripped with a 70-200 f4L (Non-IS) lens.

Something about the 5Dc attracts me and i can get one second hand for slightly less than what i can sell my 650D for.

The full frame image quality attracts me and the body looks like it would be alot beter handling (i'm yet to hold one).

I don't shoot professionally, but i am joining a local wedding photography company to help assist in picture taking at the weekends.
Also i do like shooting abit of wildlife, but i shoot pretty much everything.

How do you think this will suite my needs?
Worth the swap?

imo no...

Build up your lens first, so buy EF lens from now on. Wait for an used 5D2 or 6D and jump on it.

I agree hold onto your current camera and get glass. I have a 5D and they are a great camera for what they do, but the 5D II would be nicer and they are coming down in price.

@bboysmax, Why don't you try 7D instead? It is also suites best in wildlife and nature photography.

Buy the 5D. Keep the 650D. If you can't do both, wait.

The 650D is bang up to date technology and is very capable of taking fantastic quality photos, it's good in low light with a standard 12800 ISO (updatable to 25600) rating and the screen is great for liveview composing. The 5D is a bit too long in the tooth IMO, although it still works well. It has an ISO rating to 1600 (updatable to 3200) and although the FF sensor in general seems to handle noise well I think the 650D may be better. They both have 9 point AF system but the 650D points are all cross type and the 650D has a higher frame rate.

The 5D has the better ergonomics IMO and probably a better build quality going for it, but bear in mind the 5D will only take EF lenses and not EF-S when/if you get new lenses and also bear in mind you will lose the 'reach' you get with a crop sensor camera, which is a great help in wildlife shooting, meaning you may have to rethink your lens options too.

I would keep the 650D for now and use it until you can get a great deal for a 5D MkII and upgrade at that point. The 5D MkII is an excellent camera and IMO it's a good upgrade over the 5D MkI and the 650D.

EOS 5D MkIII, EOS 70D, EOS 650D, EOS M, Canon 24-70 f2.8L MkII, Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII, Canon 100 f2.8L Macro, Canon 17-40 f4L IS, Canon 24-105 f4L IS, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 85 f1.8, Canon 50 f1.4, Canon 40 f2.8 STM, Canon 35 f2, Sigma 150-500 OS, Tamron 18-270 PZD, Tamron 28-300 VC, 580EX II Flash, Nissin Di866 MkII Flash, Sigma EM 140 Macro Flash and other bits.

As a former 5D shooter I have to agree with the previous poster. The 5D in it's day was a fantastic camera as it pretty much set the standard for IQ which others tried to match. But, that was years ago. It still takes great pictures but the difference these days between the 5D and the xxxD line is pretty much gone especially when starting to shoot at the higher ISOs. If you are looking to stay between ISO 100 to say ISO1600 and don't use any of the features of a modern camera, go for it but if you think your going to get a significant bump in IQ from the upgrade, you'll be disappointed.

As you shoot wildlife I'd recommend you stick with the 650d... the pixel density and resolution will give you more apparent 'reach' with your lens.

If you shot more portraiture then I'd recommend the 5Dc. I have the 550d and 5Dc and prefer each for different things.

I've had my 5D for about 2 months. I agree with every word of this quote. Although that comment about modern cameras makes me feel a bit old. No offense, though. I am old.

For wildlife the 650D is much better. However a couple of years ago I traded my 550D (which I liked) for a 5D, and it was the best move I ever made. I do lots of portraits and love the narrow DOF look a lot. When I updated to the 5D2 I was disappointed. If you had any primes (a 50, an 85, or both) I would say definitely go for it. As you don't, maybe not yet.

I personally prefer the 5DC to any Rebel, just make sure you understand the LCD and menus are going to seem OLD comparatively... The images have that awesome warm 5DC feel, so if that is attractive to you, go for it.

thanks for all the feedback.

basically i can get about £400 for my 650D body.

I can get a second hand 5Dc for £400 too, with battery grip.

Or do i spend abit more and get a second hand 5D Mk II for my 650D body and £700??

Advantages of 5D2 over 5D. Sensor self-cleaning, 21 vs 12 MP. ISO 25,600 max vs. 3200. MUCH better rear preview screen. IQ is indistinguishable. I went for the 5D. YMMV.

The 5Dc is an awesome camera, it produces superb images. But you want your main camera to be as reliable and dependable as possible and you want to be totally acquainted with it (muscle memory). You do not want to be using an old camera that you are not fully acquainted with for work. If you have people relying on you to record their wedding you owe it to them to have a back up camera. Not having one and relying on an antique will eventually bite you.
