Anybody know if a Best Buy extended warranty is transferable if you have the receipt?

They will fix it if a protection plan was purchased. They are not warranties so they do not deal with "transferring" it. If they can see that it has protection, then the item has protection.

I used to work for them.

Be very careful with BB "extended" warranties. "Extension" is IMO a misnomer. If you buy a product with a one year OEM warranty and a one year extension, you are not covered for two years. The two warranties run concurrently.

You should also check your credit cards as many do include a true extension on the warranty. I have a platinum through Bank of America for instance and it doubles the original warranty.

i never had an issue with best buy, when something is broken and if they see it has extended warranty they will service the item.
My 7d warranty was about to expire on feb 4, i renew the extended warranty for 2 year, getting a dslr fix is not cheap.

I never had Best Buy fix anything bought from them, they just give me a full refund.

I take that back Best Buy did replace (sent it out) the sensor on my Sony F717 camera two months before the four year extended warranty ran out.

Suggestions welcome.

I've never heard such a "one year extended warranty" that runs concurrently with the manufacturer's one year warranty, unless it includes accidental damage. Basically, it provides more coverage. Otherwise, if it's the exact same as manufacturer's warranty and it runs concurrently, it should be illegal.

I've had a gaming headset replaced about a year after I bought it through a Best Buy extended warranty, they exchanged the item no questions asked... if they do that with Cameras too then it's worth paying for imo. As for it being transferable... I have no idea... sorry OP.

It is transferable, I sold my t1i and I believe you just call them and tell th the name and address of the new owner. This was about 1.5 years ago, looking at my MacBook policy it is still the same. I have the black tie service agreement paperwork and it has all the information on it. If you don't have head over to best buy and I'm sure they will help you out.

As a general rule, Extended Warranties are meant to increase profits, not protect you. Depends on your finances and comfort level. They are basically an insurance policy. I look at insurance as a way to protect from losses that I can not afford. I have insurance on my wife's car because I can't afford to replace it if one of us wrecks it. I don't have insurance on my cameras or appliances because, while inconvenient, I could afford to replace them. Insurance is EXPENSIVE.

Example:
I carry $5,000 deductible on my house insurance. It saves me about $500 per year. A few years ago we had some roof damage from a storm. It cost me almost $5,000 to fix it. That came out of my pocket. I have saved about $400/year for 25 years of home-owners insurance. That is about $10,000. I figure that even with paying for the roof out of pocket, I am still about $5,000 richer today by NOT carrying so much insurance.
