Best walkaround lens for T4i

For kids indoors, there are several ways, I would start in av mode, ai servo, single point focus, and play with your iso setting until your shutter speed is around 1/400....to start anyway....

Here are a few 18-135 for sale here for around 250 new

I'm going to suggest that a slow zoom lens (f/5.6) used indoors witthout flash isn't realistic for most situations. That's why I suggest the OP get a Speedlite first.

F/5.6, 1/400 and indoors as you suggest is going to need ISO 12800 or more most of the time.

I'm going with Jeffrey & snakeman. f2.8 lens will not do magic in indoors unless you have bright lights. I'm regularly @ ISO 800, 1/60 @ f2.8 with decent lights. 1/60 will not freeze motion, that you will need for the kids. f2.8 on crop does not completely blur out the background rather it hazes the background. If you stop down then it is practically impossible without a flash. T
therefore I would rather use the existing 18-55 kit lens with a flash or buy a sigma 30 f1.4. 30mm on crop is lovely range for walkaround.

I would use what you got. Buy the 430 canon flash and learn the lens you have.Both take excellent pictures. I made do with both of those lens and happy i did i learned a lot about shooting and such and still learning. Then i got the photo bug and now own 100-400 and more. Take your time don't rush into anything.

For the T4i, I would pick up the kit with the 18-135 STM, which seems like a nice walk around lens for this particular body.

Indoors, using the automatic settings, a different lens isn't going to solve the problem. As others have said, you need a flash for that, and you need to program the camera manually. It's easy to do, once you've figured it out.

On the other hand, if what you want is simply not to have to change lenses, ever, you might want to consider selling your existing lenses and buying one of the 18-200 zoom lenses. But even with that, you're still going to need a flash indoors.

In your shoes I'd keep the lenses you have and buy a flash. You'll still have to change lenses sometimes, but you'll get great photos indoors.

Camera and lenses are just equipment’s, it's up to photographer to take good images. You got all what you need to take very good (not the best) pictures. Spend money in knowing your camera. Do you know what is aperture priority mode ,manual mode, mirror lock up or exposure compensation? Once you come to know your interest you will come to know your needs.
It's a journey if you are really interested in photography so enjoy it.

My Fav lens on Canon 7D was Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 OS

If you can get the new 18-135mm, not the old, for a good used price, I would go with that. The IQ is almost as good as the 15-85mm.

The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 non VC and the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS are good options too but in the same range as your kit lens.

Thanks everyone.. As most of u recommend to go for a speed lite flash.. That's what I'm gonna do..I saw canon speed lite 430 ex ii for $265 in amazon. Before I do that I've another question. do I've lots of settings to do each time when I take pictures? I never owned an external flash... That's why I'm asking...

Re-read my post 13. The flash metering can be automatic, and you can combine this with very simple manual camera settings to get consistent and easy results.

I like primes. 24, 30, & 35mm variety is my choice for crop
