I have a dilemma here.

I was just about to do a small upgrade from my 5DC to the 5D2. My original plan was to upgrade to the 6D, but then I learned that the 6D has almost the "same" AF as 5DC and 5D2, with only one cross type focus point.

So I thought: "oh well, might as well go with the much cheaper 5D2!"

But then I started thinking about the outer focus points of the 6D! I know that they are not cross type, but I have seen people who claim that they outer focus points are much better in the 6D, than the outer focus points in the 5D2.

Is this true? Are the outer points really improved over the 5D2? This alone will be a deal maker or deal breaker for me, so I really need to know. :)

I have gone from the 5D2 to the 6D, but the AF system has no bearing on my photography at all so I can't help you there. But there are numerous other advantages of the 6D that are well worth exploring.

6D, G9, Sigma 50 1.4, Sigma 15mm Fisheye, Sigma 50 2.8 macro, Nikon 14-24G 2.8, Canon 16-35 2.8 II, Canon 24-105 f/4 IS, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, tripod, lights, other stuff.

Bump! I'd love to know more about this!

I might have to buy a new camera soon (against my will), and if the 6D has better accuracy on the outer points, I might go for a 6D instead of another 5D2.

I have both. The overall AF on the 6D is marginally better than the 5D2. The center point on the 6D works MUCH better in low light though.

I wouldn't upgrade to a 6d for the AF system, however I definitely would love the noise performance of the 6d/5diii sensors

I would take a 6d over a 5d2 any day of the week.

It looses a few points on ergonomics but everything else is much improved. Speed, build, abilities etc.

The focus system is better too, though its not a 5d3.
