I just got an email from one of the curators at the Royal Alberta Museum:

"....I was wondering whether I could have your permission to use one of your images (http://bugguide.net/node/view/560568/bgimage (external link)) for a lecture I am giving at the end of the month (http://www.royalalbertamuseum.ca/events/event.cfm?id=200 (external link) - admission to the lecture is free). I love this image: it is so brilliant and really conveys the beauty and fascination of wasps. Of course I will give proper credit.

Best regards,..."

I thought that was pretty cool.

About a year ago, the same individual determined from images and specimens that I had sent to him, that I had found the first Polistes apachus to be identified in Nevada.

Very cool! Don't ya just LOVE when that happens? One of my images was used on a bank website a few years back as a title header.

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!

Moose, that sure is an ego booster when it happens. Congratulations! A few of my insect images at BugGuide have been used in entomological publications, although the photography doesn't come near to the quality of yours.

It's a good thing you're out hunting bugs. Nevada is chronically underrepresented on the data maps.

Well, the editors haven't heard about it. Those two photos are placed under P. aurifer now.

Those don't show the stripes on their back, which is one way to differentiate the two. I provided him other photos as well as about 10 specimens, of both aurifer and apachus.

So yeah, those two photos are still under aurifer.

The ones here are apachus:
