I'm going to head back to my early days of flash and lighting. I can remember what a fascinating word "diffusion" was. Almost mystical. It seemed if I put a fancy expensive diffuser on it would solve all my lighting problems. I think that word alone sells 80% of the devices out there. Ominbounce is a very cool and well thought out word. It actually makes sense to it's application.

After taking lighting courses I wanted to stay on top of it so I decided to host several workshops for local camera clubs. I figured the best way to member something is to teach it. During one workshop a women pulled out a Fong lightsphere and asked how to freeze her son while he was plying hockey using it. At that point it really hit me on how much misinformation is out there. Camera settings were not important, but the diffuser was.

I wish I was as smart as Gary Fong. As for charging high prices items that are inexpensive to manufacture I'd be inconsolable for about an hour but then I'd be OK.

His gear takes a beating here but this is what these forums are about. My new motto. Buy whatever you want, it is your money, just make it an educated purchase.

I think you mean the Sto-Fen omnibounce. ;)
I have one, it's a great place to stash batteries and spare change.

 That is exactly what I use mine for!!!

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

... and when they have the sto-fen angled upwards outdoors, you know you have encountered a genuine moron.

I thought they just did this when the flash couldn't dial down to a setting low enough and just wanted to burn some power ;-)a

I use manual exposure settings on the copy machine

Not if you use them the way I do. I think they work pretty good.

They are mostly used by amateur photographers pretending to be professional photographers.
