Even the USM version is not ring , it is micro motor as far as I can google .

Feb 16, 2013 10:50 | #18 I just checked my photos - I had it very briefly back in '07, must've borrowed it from somebody since I don't recall ever buying it (and I know I wouldn't). In LR I only see a handful of photos taken with it, which means I culled the ones that weren't good. All of these photos are rather nice. All of them were taken at f10, which is NOT an aperture I ever use for portraits. I must have been increasing aperture in steps until I got acceptable results. So yes you can get good results - if you have good enough light to stop it down quite a bit. Ex-Canon shooter. Now Sony Nex.
