A couple of American White Pelicans who have apparently chosen to winter in Wisconsin are seen taking a break from fishing on the ice of Lake Winnebago.

Great shots, Mike! Nailed exposure and fantastic clarity; they're some BIG birds!

That's surprising to see those this time of year, I wonder if one is injured or too young to make the flight, so another stayed with it. Nice pics.

Amazing shots...everyone of them. Poor little buggers need a lift south!

They look healthy enough, beautiful Pelicans, your shots are top notch, excellent control on the whites, really just superb shots, each one.
Well done indeed.

Thank you very much Eric! Yes, they are HUGE, they're like the jumbo jets of the bird world :-)

Thank you! They seem quite healthy and content, I just went back to that spot again today and they're still there looking fine (we're just getting out of a prolonged cold snap with below zero temperatures too). While they didn't fly while I was there, I've seen photos of them taken by others this winter while they were both flying so I think they just must like the fish there and decided to stay.
