Best width for rails?

Im going to build my own rig out of parts but im wondering what diameter to get the rails. Does anyone have any recommendations?

15mm is the small standard and is fine for DSLR's Larger cameras employ 19mm rails.

The standard separation distance is 60mm.

You should adhere to the standard which J_O_S_H_U_A mentioned.

If you are building everything you can use what ever dimensions you like. There is a guy in the UK who swears by 1/2" rails. To me its a no brainer 15mm dia 60mm c/c, that way you can swap and change with the thousands of parts already available.

While making your own rig can be satisfying, some of the preconfigured systems are so cheap it isn't worth the effort, unless you have specific requirements that aren't readily available.

I agree 100% and I wish I had the resources and savvy to build my own rigs.

It can get very expensive to keep buying workaround solutions for a customized piece. SPECIALLY if you want quality.
