Just want to share this. I bought 10 years ago a used 24mm f2.8 on ebay. Not bad condition but when I tested the lens on my 20D, the lens was very very soft. I've never really used it. Then last year I tested it on my newer t3i and worst, the lens showed some nasty doube edges in the highlights, a real dog. biark.

I've just tested the lens on my 6D and, behold! It's not bad at all. Then to compare I mounted my 15-85mm (at 15mm) on my t3i and the 24mm on my 6D and took an indoor comparative shot; The 24mm is just as sharp as the 15-85mm. Obviously the ISO noise and full frame resolution make the difference here. One surprise though, the 24mm is wider by a fair margin. I would say a good mm.

I've just won myself a very usable lens! Pretty happy about it and I'm going to bring it tomorow on a little trip.

That's all! Happy happy joy joy!

I might just have found why it was so bad... it require -20 of MA!! Still, It's kinda fine with the MA. No wonder the poor guy sold it...

It's a nice, compact little lens. Post some of the photos in the lens sample photo archive when you take some. I seem to be one of the last regular users of this lens.

I bought one of these a year or two ago, and use it on my 5DMk2. It has less distortion by far than the 24-105 when set at 24mm, and the extra stop is also useful.

I soon will have my 1DMk3, and i am interested to see how little 24mm performs on a 1.3X crop. I have never tried it on my 7D; I have a 17-55 f/2.8, so I see no need to do so.

I found that it did well for some close indoor work but even on APS-C is left me wanting for landscape work. Even my Tamron 17-50 2.8 and 28-75 2.8 zooms delivered noticeably better results for that sort of work.

You mean your 28-75mm is sharper than the 24mm prime? or just more versatile?

I got few shots yesterday with the 24mm but very soon switched to the 35mm/135mm combo. When zooming I had the impression it was not as sharp as the 35mm. A hell lot wider though!! I will check on the computer screen tonight after work. Hard to judge from the small LCD screen.

Here you go! I though the sharpness was not adequate but seeing it in big, at f8, it's pretty good.

Would it benefit from sending to canon for calibration and cleaning?

Bingo, that was my guess when I read the first post.

A bit OT but I can't find the information anywhere. How do I insert a photo from Flikr in a post? I just joined Flikr and I'm attempting to attach a photo with my 24/2.8. I managed to upload it to Flikr but no idea where to go from there!
