this time of the year the Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley see a lot of foot traffic.. It's hard to find pristine sand without a lengthy hike...

You don't get nearly as much in the summer months....

Yeah, footprints suck. Scenic areas should be limited only to photographers who have anti-gravity hover platforms from which to shoot. ;)

But, thanks for the tip. I would rather endure 120 degree heat than encounter trampled scenes.

I had to stop and find shade under a big greaswood a couple of times this summer... An hour hike back in may take two hours to get back out...

but you will come away with some good stuff..

I would suggest Eureka Dunes instead. Although it may be further to get to that in itself lends to less people being there. Now if you have an off-road vehicle then get out to Saline Valley.

When I was there I had to hike a long way to find pristine sand dunes. I really like the 2nd one.

Same here, I had to hike all the way to the largest dune to find dunes without footprints. Anything within an hour of the parking lot will look like a sandbox. It's very much worth the effort to get far out.

2nd one is awesome. Well worth the hike.

One of my favorite places to shoot a sunset, but getting footprints out of your frame can be tough.

The footprints are kinda cool in their own right... there's enough to make a pattern.
The image might work for you in B&W, but I personally think it's fine. Perhaps not a wall-hanger, but still, quite fine.
