Hi,

Doing my 52 project this year I've found myself doing a few self portraits and was wondering if you have any useful tips.

Lights wise I have four flashes now - all HSS capable - two manual only - all on 622C's.

I other stuff wise I have a Lastolite Hilite, a couple of umbrellas - two shoot thru, two reflecting (one silver one gold) - a coupld of stofens for the manual lights.

Ta.

Posting up a few examples might help. It can be a bit difficult to offer advice if we don't see where you've already been. Plus, I'm trying to do the same with selfies, and I have found this to be the single most difficult image to create!

Sorry, it was just general advice such as one I heard - to get focus get a stand and put something where your eye should be at the right height and lock focus, then you're set for that part.

Going on from that I could see a hat stand of all things being useful.

I had the same advice as John. But what I've used is a flash on a stand where my eye will be, plus a marker on the ground for one of my feet. Then when I step into place just lean the stand out of the way and push the remote button. Works great.

I'm also doing a 52 project with some self portraits...
I suggest not trying to get too shallow with DOF. Very difficult to get the focus where you want it. I usually shoot at f/5.6 - f/8. I have sone shallow stuff, but it's lots of trial and error.
