Are there any third party batteries LP-E6 type that do work in a 6D?

Hello,

I was using Phottix batteries in my 50D but I heard that the Phottix LP-E6 type do not work correctly in a D6 (no correct status info).
This was also confirmed by the webshop I initially wanted to order new Phottix batteries.
Does anyone know if there are any third party batteries that do work correctly in a 6D?

Reviving an old thread because I have the same question. I have a Sterling Tech that works fine in my 60D. It doesn't work in the 6D. Should I just buy a Canon battery?

You have to get the sterlingtek batteries specifically for the 6d. My 7d batteries are the same, but they don't work in my 6d either.

EOS 6d, 7dMKII, Tokina 11-16, Tokina 16-28, Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8, Sigma 17-50 F/2.8, Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200 F/2.8L, Mixed Speedlites and other stuff.

Have you purchased any of those SterlingTek batteries to verify that?

You are braver than I am. 20% of the reviews claim it doesn't work with the 6D.

I don't own a 6D but when I got my 70D this past September, SterlingTek did not offer compatible batteries yet. I have used plenty of SterlingTek batteries with my 40D and never had a problem, so was a bit disappointed in the thought of shelling out big bucks for OEM batteries!

I ended up ordering a couple Wasabi Power LP-E6s and a charger and am happy to report they have been working perfectly!

One point worth mentioning is if you order aftermarket batteries like SterlingTek or Wasabi Power, be sure to get their charger also. Canon chargers seem to not care for non-Canon batteries and will show "full" on the charger but loose charge quickly if not used with their own charger.

batteries for my 5dmk 2

I do not remember the after market brand of the batteries I bought for my 5 d mk 2.
But the first one I tried wouldn't charge up.
I have a after market for my t3i and it lasts half as long as the canon oem battery.

There must be some variance in SterlingTek's LP-E6 batteries. I have one that works fine in my 60D and the charger that came with the 60D. It does not work in the 6D or charger that came with the 6D.

I used this Watson battery in my 6D once and it appeared to work just fine. Charged up in the charger that came with the 6D. Positive reviews on B&H as well.

Canon is screwing around with the camera / battery interface for no apparent reason other than to cause trouble for 3rd party manufacturers. This issue is due to Canon, not due to any quality issues with 3rd party batteries.

Quite possibly so. I still need to use batteries that display a level while in use, and that I can charge.

If this were true, they'd also be messing up the older versions of the Canon LP-E6s and LC-E6 chargers. That this isn't happening strongly suggests that the third-party makers (as happened before with lenses, most notably Sigma's line) haven't reverse-engineered the Canon smart circuitry successfully. This should, however, put paid to the oft-voiced claims that Canon and third-party batteries all come from the same factory but in different boxes.
