When the colors are bad, go B+W!

It took me a while to finally decide on how to make this photo work. The color was bad, but the subject and lighting are great. In such cases, it is usually better to do some black and white conversion. It took many conversions to find one that worked best, but in the end, it turned out for the better.

It's now one of my favorite photos!

gotta LOVE B&W !! I agree in that B&W on some images adds IMPACT and this is a good example of that

When the color composition of a shot gets too hectic, I almost always do B&W conversions. This one reminds me of the Paramount logo =P

I'm going to be decorating someone's entire new house with my work later this year. They want a HUGE 10 foot wide print for the main living area, and I think I am going to push them to use this photo.

The detail of the glacier at full rez is pretty outstanding.

So, didn't use your Lee filter set for the shoot

Great pp, shot works well.

I don't think it worked well with this shot. For me, using b+w is something I think about at the time of the shot, not because the colours are flat or uninteresting.
