Has anyone here tried the Joby Ultrafit Sling Strap? Just wondering if this is any good or not.

Looks like they adopted the Luma Cinch mechanism. I'd wait for the Cinch mk2 to be available.

I've been using the Ultrafit for a few months. Is it for everyone? No. If you frequently use a tripod it'll probably be a pain having to remove the strap every time. Does plastic hardware scare you? Don't bother (It doesn't bother me). Probably doesn't have the "cachet" of a BR or Cinch either...

I do like it's comfort, quick, intuitive adjustability and that it can be used across either shoulder (I like to have my camera on the left side). The price was reasonable (got mine when Joby had a sale) and the fit and finish of the strap is excellent. The sole tripod attachment point took a little adjustment time for me, but I now feel very confident about it and there has never been a sign of the mounting screw loosening accidentally. My only real gripe is the size of the swiveling mount. I'm using the Ultrafit with my gripped 60D and the mount can get in the way when shooting in portrait orientation, but I've figured out how to minimize that issue.

I had been reluctant to try a sling strap but decided on the Joby when it was first announced since they seemed to have given a fair amount of thought into it's design and that it didn't cost an arm and a leg. So far it's working great for me and have no plans to replace it anytime in the near future.

I just bought one of these, but am thinking about returning it. The problem is that the tripod mount has a tendency to stick out towards my face. So, if I draw the camera up from my waist to my face, it will poke me in the chin. It's just annoying enough that I don't think I will keep it. Other than this one problem, I really like the strap. It's really soft and comfortable. I also like that it adjusts so easily. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Before anyone brings it up, I have also been using a Luma Cinch 1 for a while and more recently a Black Rapids strap. The Cinch is great, but it's too slow for quick draw situations (birds). I also don't like the heaviness of the metal hardware and the lack of a quick release. I avoided the Black Rapids forever because of the single mount point, but it is awesome for quick draws. Too bad the strap is uncomfortably stiff (will probably break in).

Ive had one since Dec last year. This is the first strap ive ever used, i normally hold my camera, but since getting a 5DMKIII its become a bit too heavy to hold all day.
I love this strap, and dont find any issues with it.
I had to go and test mine after reading about the face issue. I cant see how that works, but i do notice mine sort of rotates by the time i have it in the firing position anyway.

I really like mine as its comfortable and quick to get into position to take a picture. Also, its easily adjustable as already mentioned.

Problem I'm having now is that the connection is a screw into your tripod mount. I shoot video also, and have to take time to unscrew the strap every time I want to use my stabilizer. I normally just try to avoid using my stabilizer, as I'm too lazy to switch back and forth.

Is there a solution to this I don't know about ? Probably, as I've only been using it for 2 months. If someone has one I'd love to hear it.

Other than that I love the strap for just hiking and taking pictures. It can be cinched really tight so it doesn't swing when you walk.

That's the inherent problem with using straps that take up the tripod socket. I almost got the Joby instead of the new Cinch 2, but this inherent flaw is why I went with the Cinch 2. Although the Cinch 2 comes with an Arca, but I am mounting the strap to the camera's left strap mount and my RRS L plate's bottom right strap mount.

You can use an M-plate that will give you multiple sockets.

The negative is indeed that you need to remove the strap before being able to use the qr plate on your camera. However, it also has a big advantage over straps that use the lugs on the camera. Because it is mounted on the bottom it won't fall over your hands. It is much easier to hold the camera this way.

Using the left camera mount and the bottom right mount if my L plate, the straps don't touch my hands. No problems at all.

Of course there are other ways of not getting the straps over your hands :)

Thanks for that suggestion. I don't have a tripod yet so I'm not sure what style of qr plate I will need in the future. At least that one will work for Manfrotto and Arca I believe.

I'd really like to something a little cheaper :) though!

Just go Arca and don't look back.

It use to be that Arca gear was a massive up-front investment and the next best alternative was Manfrotto. That is no longer true - lots of companies are building very decent tripods, ball heads, clamps and plates for not a lot of money. The nice thing with these Arca based solutions is that everything is interchangeable; go ahed and get the $150 Arca based tripod kit on eBay and upgrade it piece-by-piece as your budget allows and needs demand.

With Manfrotto, you are spending $120 to buy some time before you step up your game and decide that you really do need the super nice RRS or Gitzo setup.

Arca all the way. Non-proprietary.

Thanks guys, that's some very helpful info for me. I've been trying to soak up as much info as possible for when I make my tripod purchase and my heads been spinning!

When I first started researching I thought I would go with Manfrotto, but lately everything I read tells me anything but. Thanks again guys.
