Nice shots everyone. I visited Yellowstone last year and the wildlife came pretty close.
Here is a Sooty Grouse and a Common Raven.

Haha, Brad, your first shot at 55mm reminded me of my very first bird shots. I had just bought the 40D and had only one lens, the nifty fifty. Looking for subjects to try out my new toys, I was hanging out my window and shot the gulls that were flying around the house.

Hmm, that's even worse news. If this camera is so great and the photos aren't, and the rest of the responsbility lies with me, then . . .

The responsibility lies with the photographer regardless of whether they have an 800mm telephoto and a pro camera, or a point and shoot. After all, it's the not the camera that has the knowledge of its subject, or scouts out good locations so it knows where to go and when to be there, takes light conditions and background into consideration, etc.

Also whatever gear you have, you need to understand how to use it, and work within those parameters. How much research have you done on the capabilities of your camera? Have you looked at examples of what other photographers are doing with the same equipment? And for other photos that you like, do you look into the technical details to see how the photographer accomplished that result? I could go on, but hopefully you get the point. The learning is up to you - the camera is only a tool.

These days there are more resources than ever available for learning, and most photographers are more than willing to help others. It takes time and if you just throw up your hands and feel sorry for yourself, then how do you expect to improve? Put your photos out there, and ask for help!

Here's a photo I took with my G10 (three models behind your G15) @ 13.8 mm in manual mode. I was actually out shooting a great blue heron with a telephoto, noticed the sun pop out through the clouds for just a brief moment to create this great light, and the beautiful reflections of the trees in the water.

The heron is in the palm tree toward the upper left of the photo. If you look closely, you'll see anhingas in some of the other trees.

Here are some juvenile eastern screech owls I photographed (very quickly) with my iPhone at the rehab facility where I volunteer. From a photography standpoint it's not very attractive surroundings, but you can't deny the cuteness of these adorable baby owls! :D

I'm not sure what the story of these owls is, or if they came from the same nest. Notice that one is red phase and the other is gray phase. I don't have EXIF, but given that the focal length of an iPhone is about 4mm, I think it qualifies for this thread.
