Hi

So I was cheerfully snapping some RAW shots for the first time, but when I came to work on them on my Mac (10.4.3) Photoshop CS couldnt open the .CR2 files.

On further investigation it looks like support for the 300 and 350 D were added to the Adobe Camera RAW Plugin in version 3.2, which appears to only be for CS2, not CS.

Am I right in thinking that if I want to do my 350D RAW stuff in Photoshop, I need CS2? Or is there another solution?

Can I also ask, if people don't use Adobe, what software do they use?
I've installed the Canon Utilities, but haven't got to grips with it yet.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm dying to get going on the RAW thing. I might have a look at this Lightroom thing from Adobe, but its still a beta.

Yes, I believe you do need CS2 to view the 350d raw files. I'm using RawShooter Essentials with my 350d - its a nice free simple but effective piece of software that works well. :)

Excellent, thanks for replying. Thats windows only though, so I can't use that.

If I win the lottery, I wil be able to afford something that runs Aperture. I won't wait underwater, though.

You may be able to install a version of Camera Raw higher than 3.1 .
Have you tried downloading it and putting it in your plugins folder?

P.S. I just got the PowerMac for Aperture and now i'm waiting for my memory upgrade and Aperture to come in.

P.S.S Gotta love the academic pricing. Aperture = $150

Yeap, for me, about 3 Gigs of memory made Aperture happy!

Where does one get Aperture Academic for $150. The Apple store sells it for around $289 or something like that unless they price it differently for the different schools.

One workaround is to convert to 16 bit TIFF using DPP and then open that in Photoshop.

Thanks for all your replies, I realise now this should have gone in post-processing.

I see from that other thread 10.4.4 now lincudes 350D RAW support in iPhoto and Preview, which is a start.

Mirage: I did think of that but hadn't tried it yet, I now have a folder with every version of Camera RAW in it, but hadn't tried dropping 3.2 into the plugins yet, I thought it might complain but I'll try it.

At second glance Elements may be the cheapest way forward, but I'm going to play with Lightroom first.

PacAce there is no 'Aperture Academic', he means that he got the software using an Apple educational discount: http://store.apple.com …k/Images/routingpage.html (external link)
- its the same product its just cheaper if you're a student or education body.

blighty - grab the DNG converter out of a recent Camera Raw plus DNG converter release, and install Camera Raw 2.4 in your Photoshop CS. Use the DNG converter to convert your .CR2 files from your camera to DNG, then open the DNG in Camera Raw 2.4 in Photoshop CS.

it doesnt run like a beta though. Beta software has a reputation for being broken and buggy, but Lightroom seems to run very smoothly, just like the 'real thing.' At any rate, the beta is free and only 8mb, so I would recommend taking a look at it. cheers,
