Looking to buy a 24-70 2.8 or the 5d markii and still use my 24-105. My original goal was to start up grading my L glass to at least 2.8 zooms. now think the 5dmarkii could get my iso high enough for more natural light shots and start playing with video......same price.....Anyone use then24-70 2.8 on a 40d for sports? I know the 24-70 is used or was used a lot on the 5dc. Thoughts or suggestions? gonzogolf dumb remark memorialized More info | Feb 11, 2013 10:27 | #4 You get a stop of ISO performance. Its good, but not enough that it ought to change your lens shopping list. While I love my 5DII for the most part its IQ isnt a huge leap over the 5D. There are some solid reasons to upgrade, but it sounds like you might not need them as much as you need new glass. Given that you have good F4 zooms, you might ask yourself if 2.8 is enough difference or whether you want to supplement your primes. I found that I'm okay with F4 in the zooms because for the most part if F4 wasnt cutting it 2.8 wouldnt either.

Feb 11, 2013 10:30 | #5 tough call. the 24-70 is a good lens, but the 5D2 has a bit more useable high ISO AND video. Maybe sell off the 5Dc and 40D for the 5D2. I've been slowly growing into the video segment, and I find that feature phenomenal. The more I use it, the more I love it. Not wide enough for basketball "in the paint" and not long enough for most outdoor sports. In my opinion the 17-55mm would be ideal for indoor sports. Zenfolio

I also shoot indoor sports with both - the 40D is much faster fps, but I love the 5d3 image quality. Get the 24-70 and you won't be sorry. 5DSR|5D2|40D|17-40L|24-70L|70-200L II|100-400L| more vintage cameras than I care to count
