I'm upgrading my monitor at work. Looking at either the NEC multiSync PA271 or the 301.
The 27" has an LCD, the 30" has an IPS CCFL backlight. I assume the latter is a fluorescent tube.
Which is the preferred, in your opinion? I like the idea of having instant constant brightness of an LCD, but that's about all I know about the two.

Thanks!

Unless I'm very much mistaken, "LCD" is the display type and not the backlighting. The backlight will typically be either LED or CFL.

Yeah, two goofs on my part. For some reason I was reading "LED" for "LCD" in the B&H specs, and then I reversed them again in my "instant brightness" comment. Doubt if the 27" is LED, or they would promote that in the specs, they must both be CFL-- probably just a typo in their specs listing.

That would make more sense and that's definitely something to clarify.

Generally speaking, CFLs can give wider gamuts, but that may have changed in the last few months. So I would check the gamuts on those two monitors. But otherwise, LEDs are longer lasting and do not fade over time like CFLs. Also, you can't use the older colorimeters with LED backlighting. My Spyder 2, for example, can't calibrate an LED-backlit panel.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.
