17-85 and 24-105 side by side at 50mm -- your thoughts?

All the way wide is where it struggles, more or less?
I've heard that each variable lens has it's "good spots" and "bad spots"...I'd like to know more about that I guess...

I tested at 70mm and could not see a definite disadvantage in IQ compared to an 'L' or to a respected third party lens. My mind is rusty, and would have to look at back posts from 8 years ago, but it might have had some CA issues at the wide end...I dunno.

Thanks for this post. I just upgraded my 350D to a 7D and was about to upgrade my 17-85 to a 24-105.
I might just hold off and see how I go. I am sure the better camera will give me a much better product in the first instance.

Are you really that surprised by the results:rolleyes:

F/8 ,,100 ISO,, at 1/200....They are all going to look like this. I doubt you could see a big difference B/t any of the lens on the market at these settings.

Compared them at F/2.0-2.8 and lets talk
