I've spent countless hours exercising all of my resources including the search function on this forum and haven't really found a great tutorial on Astrophotography. Can anyone help me out with this image? Thanks
-Scott

Since you used a descriptive title, the forum has done a mini-search for you. Look at the links at the
very bottom left hand corner of this page.

Convert your RAW to JPG and load them into Registax (external link), it'll do the work for you. And it's free...

Hey there, I'm having a rough time myself, especially when I stack them in deep sky stacker for some reason. My colors are just awful and I can't seem to get it right. It's either too blue, green, red, purple. here is one i was working on from last night, but this is 1 exposure at 5000 ISO

and here is one I stacked but quit working on because the colors were so frustrating

I like your edit better than mine, and as for the trees at the bottom, I believe you'll have to use the foreground of another photo and edit it in there because when you stack it, the foreground rotates a bit too. If you have lightroom try running an adjustment brush of clarity over the milky way, and another to slightly darken the darker parts

gen2roller,

When you're processing your photos in DSS are you not adjusting the RGB, Luminance or Saturation? I found it was really difficult to adjust my images in lightroom4 after stacking in DSS if I didn't adjust the "grey image" after the stacking process was complete. Try adjusting your RGB, Luminance and Saturation levels. I find adjusting the RGB levels first the best, but make sure you have "linked settings" checked and make minor adjustments using your arrows and then hit apply. Next adjust saturation around 17-20, normally 18 is good for saturation, followed by luminance.

I've decided to attach my picture after cropping it as I haven't figured out how to fix the mountains. So far I'm satisfied with the results as this is only my second time shooting the Milky Way, especially since it was taken with my point and shoot. lol

Gen2roller,

If you'd like you could email me your images and I could have a go at them? By no means am I an expert, but merely enjoy this kind of stuff.

I PM'd you. Here is another embarrassing attempt, I still dont know why it's so shoddy. Maybe my star detection threshold is too low? The light pollution in this one obviously doesn't help lol

That's a nice shot, I'd be interested to know which P & S you used and where you're located to get this amount of detail.
