Good to see some more volleyball shooters coming up!

Not a bad first outing. Here are a couple of thoughts:

1. See what you can do on the white balance in this facility. The orange floor is casting a tint on everyting. You should be able to shoot in AWB and make slight adjustments in post. Always shoot RAW because you don't know what the indoor lighting, floor color and other things will do while shooting.

2. Work on getting the faces of the players that are your target into the shot. Avoid shooting the backs of players. Folks want to see the facial expressions which will show the intensity of play.

3. Look at what others are doing to get ideas on shooting angles.

4. Shoot tight and crop tighter yet.

Good luck and keep at it! I've been doing it for a long time, and still find there is lots to work on.

WB looks a bit off, custom would be the way to go. I'd be surprised to see a gym use tungsten lighting. :)

Good action but needs more faces.

Looks good, especially for a first try. That red floor is going to make things tough. You should try doing a custom white balance to try to get rid of some of the red tint.

Shooting RAW or jpeg? I prefer to shoot RAW and shoot a whibal card and adjust white balance in post. Depending on the location on the floor (painted or not) the white balance can change. So many photos need individual wb adjustment.

Oh, and has been mentioned. Shoot tight, crop tighter.

Thanks everyone! WB was tough, the lights were florescent but the preset for that showed truly yellow, AWB was even worse. I'll play with the custom settings and try shooting in RAW. Agree on the faces. I was limited on positions I could shoot from (only from the stands behind the court) and with our "short" 14 y/o team, shooting through the net is tough.

We will be in a tournament this weekend at the Centurylink convention center in Omaha. Hoping for better lighting and angles.

Thanks again for the tips - I'm just ecstatic I can shoot at this high of ISO and have viewable pictures.
