I know that w/ the Pro 1 that you can twist the lense to maunaul focus the subject. Is it at all possible to do the same w/ the G6, except, of course, not rotating the lense to acheive it? Like turning the sutofocus off so i can do it manually? Because lately, no matter how far or close i am from a subject in both macro modes, it just won't focus, and i contacted Canon support, and they really couldn't help me out. So is this possible?

I don't mind telling you this stuff, but you know it's all in the manual, right? it might just be easier for you to look there. : )

yes, press the "MF" button and use the dial behind the shutter release button to focus. Depending on what mode you're in, you can press down on the dial to click between aperture, shutter speed, and focus.

I found it too difficult to use manual focusing on my G2 and it did not appear to be very percise - hope it's easier on your camera

It is very difficult to manual focus on g series cameras.

I tend to set it to manual and get as close as I can with the dial and then move the camera itself back and forth slightly till it looks right in the lcd.

That is the best way for close up work on any camera. You can even buy focus rails for this purpose.

If you are not working close up use the scale, it works very well. it is easy to estimate the distance with in the depth of field.

If you prefocus, It speeds up the focus lag in sports work.
