I am thinking of upgrading to the 5D3 in about 5 weeks or so and currently own the 5Dc. I am automatically thinking of off loading the 5Dc in the classifieds but wondered how it compared to the MK3 for outdoor portraiture in good light (low iso conditions).

I shoot mainly family and my young kids at play and love the images I get from the 5Dc. The reason I am upgrading mainly is for better low light and fast moving kid action, in addition to all the other pros of the much applauded 5D MK3.

Any views from current 5D3 owners who have kept and still also use their 5Dc's ?

Thanks

I still use mine quite a bit. I was wanting another body since I use primes a lot so I don't have to change lenses a lot in the field. I don't do a lot of portrait work but I usually keep a wider angle lens on it and use the tele lens on my 5d3. For low ISO I am not sure I find them personally a bit of a wash when using low ISO but I am sure someone will know more than I do on this.

The first thing you notice is how fast the 5d3 is in relation to the 5dc. Everything seems to be instantaneous. I cannot think of a quantifiable area apart from cost that I find the 5dc warrants any brownie points compared to the 5d3. Having said that, I have a soft spot for this old camera. I do enjoy its large pixel wells. Life is not always about how fast to lock focus at a running kid or ISO 100000000 shooting inside the city sewers.

Nostalgically speaking, I'd be happy to slap an old 50mm mkI or 35 f2 on the 5dc.

I have 5Dc, 5D2 and 5D3 and for weddings I use the 5Dc and 5D3

The 5Dc has a more "classical" look whereas the latter 2 are more clinical looking

Actually the 5D2 feels like it's on roids because of bright colours etc, whereas the 5D3 seems more clinical and neutral

Keep the 5Dc as a backup camera. Unless you really need the money to offset the price difference. It's still a very capable camera.
