So I upgraded from my 50d to a 1d3. Very happy with it so far.

Shot my younger son's first practice game the other day. He hit a HR that went about 2 ft (no, that's not a typo). That's what happens in Rookie, hit the ball, run until the coach tells you to stop.

Congratulations! Nice shots.

It is a capable camera, i was happy to use it over my 1D2n and 30D in the past, but now 1DX took that place, but still it is the backup camera for 1DX.

Wish I had the money for a 1dx but this will have to do. I'm loving it so far...

Its ok, one day when this 1DX will be so old and have in used markets for reasonable prices then you can get one.

LOL! I know, sad isn't it?

Or, maybe, one day I'll have the coin to spend on the latest and greatest when it's still the latest and greatest. ;)

But seriously, I did a lof of research before buying a 1d3. It's still--even by today's standards--a pretty awesome body--especially for sports. Wish I had it when I was shooting MMA as much as I used to. Would have made it a lot easier than pushing my 50d beyond its limits.

If you did a lot of research then you should go with 1D4 instead of 1D3, but i can understand.

Anyway, enjoy your beast and have fun!

Nothing wrong with the 1D3. I have had 3 of them. They were all great cameras. And the files from them are just a pleasure to process.

I am thinking of replacing my 7D with another 1D3.

Rick, Congratulations on catching your son's HR. That is VERY cool! Consider leveling your horizons just a bit. Shoot and/or crop tighter. Love the "round" on 2B in #4 and, of course,
the slide home in #7.

Nothing wrong with the 1D3.

I would have to agree with Brent ("rdalrt"), the 1D3 will do the job, check out this LL game shot with said camera. http://chico.zenfolio.com/p230910815 (external link) Keep shooting those precious moments. :)

I did a lot of research (including on the 1d4) and determined--for the money--the 1d3 was the right choice. If I had the money to spend on the 1d4 I would have, however, you can get 1d3s for about $1100 right now fairly easily. 1d4s are significantly more expensive than that.

Either way, I'm loving the 1d3.

Thanks. I'm usually very anal about my horizons/verticals. Not sure why I missed these. :(

Nice shots yourself! I find the 1d3 provides just a better photo (overall) than my 50d. Better saturation for sure. I don't find myself tweaking the photos out of the 1d3 nearly as much as photos from the 50d.

Nice slide on 7 =). It's hard to teach a kid proper form, so nice job!

These pictures are all great, well composed. I'm glad you are finding success with the new body. I know it's common advice to get lenses before bodies, but I know firsthand how much a new back has elevated the more technical aspects of my photography.

Epic battle in my mind of whether to focus more on portraiture or architecture. #FirstWorldProblems

The best part is we've never worked with the kids on sliding yet! He just did it naturally.

I already had the better glass so my next step was a body. :)

Don't let anyone tell you differently - the 1DIII is a very good camera even today. Sure, there were improvements in the 1DIV and 1DX, but that is true with everything over time. I still use my 1DIII quite a bit after six years of owning it with great results and have no plans to get rid of it.

There are some things a 1DX cannot do that a 1DIII can, such as trigger my flashes through my Pocket Wizards. The 1DIII files are still some of my all time favorites.

I'm with you. I don't feel bad about shooting with a 1d3 but it would be nice to have a 1dx. ;)

I also love my 50d. I've done some crazy things with it I shouldn't have been able to do. I started as a pro shooting MMA and only had a 50d to shoot that. Did a LOT of MMA and did quite well with it. Unfortunately, I moved to FL and there just isn't much MMA here in NE FL. :( The 1d3 would have been very nice to have when I was shooting MMA.
