This morning I dropped off my 5DMkII at the UPS store for warranty repair at the Jamesburg NJ location. Jamesburg is only about a 1 hour drive from my house but I just don't have the time in a day to make the trip.

I was shocked that it cost me over $45 to ship it, $36 of which was for insurance ($2000 coverage). I think it would only be fair if Canon covered in-warranty shipping costs, but I know that will never happen.

Please excuse me while I vent.

I agree, with both thoughts.

It cost me $21 dollars last year including insurance to ship my lens to VA for warranty work. Canon does not cover shipping to them and only cover shipment back to you.

The point is, that they should cover it both ways, if it's under warranty.

that is why many of us have personal articles policies through our insurance agents. It covers lost and damaged items.

I'm also wondering why you insured a camera for $2k when they sell new for hundreds less than that? -last I looked they were under 1,700 or 1,800 and at one point they were 1,500. UPS won't hand you 2 grand, they would look at what it would cost to replace now.

Yeah, that was stupid. I paid $2k last year but forgot to check how much it would cost today. Could have saved a few bucks.

I don't think that would cover damage due to a third-party's negligence.
