Upgrading my workstation monitor, choice between the two. For architectural renderings, very subtle color work in PS, no video. Accuracy is only needed in-house and for prints, most clients are viewing output on crappy consumer-grade displays, or our prints.

Specs are very similar, same res, both CCFL, similar Adobe RGB percentage and ergonomics. I recall reading a review some time ago that said the NEC was slightly better in color accuracy. Dell may have a little more user-friendly OSD controls. Not springing for SpectraView (doesn't work with OS 10.8 AFAIK), will use some other profile system if needed. $700+ diff, could use it for another hardware (Wacom) upgrade.

Thanks for your advice!

For what you listed as your needs, get whichever is cheaper. I have and love the U3011 and use it for everything you listed and more and its been nothing but awesome. Either way once you go 30, youll never go back! :)

Thanks for the response Ben, I had already ordered the Dell this afternoon!

Only trouble is, when I get home from work I'll be back in front of my old 23" Apple HD cinema...

Great choice! The 3011 is one of the best purchases I've ever made; I absolutely love it. I upgraded because the old screen I was using just would not calibrate for crap; and I was having to edit images by eyeball to get them to print out the way I wanted.

Straight out of the box, I was able to edit an image, pass it off to the print house and it would come back just as I had expected. Wonderful unit, IMO
