USHL Winter Classic (Hockey Outdoors)

So this past weekend the USHL had a outdoor game between the Lincoln Stars and the Omaha Lancers. The game started at 1230 but with no cloud cover and temps in the 50's the ice started to melt fast lol so it made for some interesting hockey.

I must say shooting in the daylight was amazing. there is nothing like being able to use ISO-100 and still getting shutter speeds of 1/6000 sec and higher

I like #7 there; that and #4 are really showing the poor ice conditions.

Really awesome captures, really like the stick flex.

In 7 the ice is ridiculously wet I'm surprised the didn't let it dry more or at least try to squeegee it

it was melting fast, especially where the painted lines were it was just a mess. they delayed the second game by almost 3 hours to let the sun go down and that helped out the ice alot

also in image 7 he hit that puck a ton but it only went about a foot lol

I bet he did, I've played on wet ice and when the puck sticks like that it actually hurts your wrist a bit.

As a photographer those conditions look like heaven, as a hockey player that looks like hell.

Nice job on these. You did a great job conveying how slushy the ice was in the action shots. Was this at the same stadium they hold the College World Series?
