DPR has come out with final review of 6D:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-6d/16 (external link)

In chapter on dynamic range the camera dynamic range is compared with other full frames. My interpretation of review is that the dynamic range of 5DIII > Nikon D600 > 6D / Sony A99

However I have read on this forum that dynamic range of Nikon / Sony > 6D > 5DIII.

Am I missing some thing or I need to improve my understanding of data presented by DPR.

PS: I am very happy with my 6D#24-105 combo but just interested in above issue academically:p

I wish that they would define their test methodology a bit more completely. I was playing with their widget and according to them, the 5DMkII and the D800 are identical when t comes to DR. Having now processed raws from both cameras I know from experience that this is just not the case. Some crucial piece of info is missing.

The Nikon 800 and 800E have far better dynamic ranges than anything Canon can offer, as well as better noise and banding control. But whether that translates further down the Nikon range I don't know.

And then when you switch on Nikon's Active D-Lighting the dynamic range shoots through the roof on both ends.

Even switching to the Nikon D800 shows worse performance with everything turned off.

Which I assume would be similar to processing the RAW file and pulling details from the shadows ...ie. precisely the strength of a D800 file.
