I have been saving & waiting a long time for this lens.

I took it out briefly this afternoon but I was under dressed so I didn't stay long.

Hopfully I'll post some shots soon. The autofocus with my 1D4 is very fast.

I have had a play with the 500 F4 Mk2 and can definitely state that if the (500 mm) is your preferred focal length then you are going to be very happy!
It is a cracking lens and will drag out all the detail that your sensor can give.
Lucky you!

I considered the 600, it was a hard choice. I think if I got the 600, I would not bring it with me as much. Plus the 500 is perfect for my back yard birds & critters.

I have a 300mm f/2.8 IS so that is making the decision harder. I plan to keep the 300 too. The weight and size of the 500mm is attractive but I feel I will always have a TC on it 99% of the time so that is why I am considering the 600mm. I see you have the 300mm too so I will be interested in your thoughts and review.

I had the extenders on my 300 most of the time as well. The 500 with the 1.4x results in a lot more keepers than my 300 with 2x.

I will wait a while and decide if I want to sell the 300.
