I'll start checking out some boats. Having a small boat all to ourselves was great in Newport. It was great to be mobile - doing what we wanted to do and going were we wanted to go. After that trip I'd hate to get stuck on one of the big boats that just anchor in one place. I'll look into it. You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

The big Parade of Sail is on a Wednesday, July 8th. Last year a few of us rented a friend's sailboat for the Newport event, and had a hell of a time with a hell of a lot of great shots. I'm not so sure that we'd be able to find a similar situation though, and might have to resort to booking a spot on one of the generic charter boats. But if enough people are interested, I am willing to hunt down a smaller boat dedicated to us POTNers. Anyone interested in renting our own boat? Seriously interested, to the tune of $150 or $200 for the day? (I just made a wild-ass guess with that cost.) If people aren't that interested, how about a general ticket on one of the bigger boats, and basically all just picking the same boat? I have no idea of this cost, but that probably won't be cheap either. Edit: If you're interested in seeing what you missed during our Newport Tall Ships tour, here's a few key posts showing pics: https://photography-on-the.net …?p=3471025&postcount=1177 https://photography-on-the.net …?p=3479861&postcount=1191 https://photography-on-the.net …?p=3479899&postcount=1192 http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157594558561274/ ![]() http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157594558561274/ ![]() Wow, lotsa pics from many folks are offline after 1.5 years... i'm down for this -Vinny
