roadkill does NOT count as top-quality meats...

I've had roadkill venison before - was pretty tasty.
I've read somewhere that game wardens have call lists of people who've signed up to take roadkilled deer.

Re: WestboroUGH - I'm going to just chalk that up to a few things. A.) I'm from Maine. B.) People in WestboroUGH got lazy and decided that those simple 3 letters were too hard to remember/write/say (silent anyhow... so no matter).

Re: Road kill - yes, if you call the state police (in Maine) you can get on a regional list of to-call when a deer (or moose, bear, etc.) accident occurs.

Re: BBQ - someone volunteer a place. I'd say my apartment, but that requires everyone to travel to me. I'm not against it, so speak up otherwise.

Re: Life - it sucks right now. I just broke my engine this morning, while headed out the door to get an inspection sticker and new tires. I think it's my timing belt, but I'll know more in a few hours when I rip it apart.

Re: "Re:" - it's annoying even me... I'll stop typing that now.

Update on my car, for anyone who cares about automobile-oriented nerdgasms.

Turns out the timing belt idler pulley (which is actually a gear: here (external link)) lost all its bearings (like, literally spewed forth) and caused my timing belt to slip. That's the bad news.

The good news is - my 1996 Outback Sport has an EJ22 engine, pre 1997. That means that this horizontally opposed, 242k old-but-still-ticking piece of machinery didn't have pistons collide with my valves. I just need to replace the parts and fire it back up again. :)

I both love, and hate, vehicles.

Gotta love that clearance on the EJ22's you lucked out. I think you mean valves. :)

Yes, valves - sorry. The clearance changed in 1997 to squeeze out 5 more HP or something. Yes, quite lucky.

Yeah, barely 5hp at that. Stupidly they tried to get more from the N/A engines. Subaru engines were meant to be turbocharged. :)

The 2.2l is actually quite strong, but the 2.5l can't fetch the same compliment unfortunately. It's amazing how easy these engines are to care for - and so quick to work on too.

I'm contemplating whether I want to change my water pump while I'm in there, though. On one hand, I don't want to have to do this again in 20k. On the other, I don't expect to be keeping the vehicle for more than another year.

I need an alignment, but my steering rack is worn so it won't hold one. It's rusting in the usual places. Reverse lights work only when the transmission is warm (sticky sensor). My rear wiper and defroster doesn't work due to severed wires in the hatch (pinched at the hinge connection). All in all, about $1k needs to go into it to keep it road worthy for another few years. Which isn't bad now that I put a number to it...
