No, it's a good thing. I knew I recognized your car when you showed me pics. From a lowly Subaru owner standpoint, you're basically a nasioc legend of sorts. Anyone with a low number and an engine swap was basically awesome in most people's books.

They still link to your posts, last I checked.

Hah, a legacy, who knew. Yeah i went off cars cold turkey, bought a car i couldn't possibly modify. (Loosely speaking). Still friends with lots of people from there.

Sorry, back to photography everyone! :)

Just a heads up to folks, Frank Doorhof is most likely going to be holding a class at my studio in September/October. http://www.frankdoorhof.com/portfolio/ (external link)

We haven't set a hard date yet as it's mostly dependent on the wedding schedule and now that he's sponsored by Canon some of his commitments. But he's really eager to come to Boston and do a class. I'll update people as details become available.

I have to say, I've never met someone that teaches light better than he does. Zach teaches pretty well also, but Zach doesn't focus on fashion/glamor so much, it's really Frank's specialty. I think he's also part of Kelby's crew now also. Not bad endorsements in the photography sphere.

We've already loosely spoke of doing in-studio, rooftop (I have access to my roof and a couple of others ;) ) and some nearby alley type stuff as well. So it'll be a good mix of conditions.

I'll let you guys know as soon as we can firm things up. We did this down in NYC last year, and it worked out good, but in some areas could have been better. This year, with his knowledge and my resources i think it's going to be much much better.

Let me know ASAP when all the details are done.
Yeah I learned so much from the NYC workshop last year.
Can't miss this one!

Yeah, i remember the rooftop in NYC! :) Good Times...

I think Frank has really refined it so it'll be more focused this time. He's big time now, difficult with scheduling. I'll shoot him another email.

Ok it's looking like September 11th and 12th. He'll be in Vegas for Photoshop World with Kelby on the 7-8-9th. Flying out on the 10th.

So if anyone is interested, and a little backstory... We did another workshop similar to this back in April 2010. We did it in a small studio in NYC. (Much smaller than mine). It was the first official one that Frank did here and we did run into some snags with everyone shooting simultaneously and such, but we've worked that out.

Frank will be doing some focused teaching on lighting and light theory. I *believe* don't quote me on this, but i believe he'll be doing a larger class on Sunday and a smaller class on monday for more personal attention. Either way he's a fantastic teacher as being sponsored by Canon and Kelby videos would suggest.

I learned just about everything i know on lighting from just 6 hours with him one day. Seeing it is a lot different than reading about it. Even compared to videos, doing it and dealing with environments and real time problems, there just isn't a substitute for that.

Check out his portfolio:

He teaches everything and hides nothing. Great person to learn from. Once we finally solidify everything, I'll put up a link. Last year, everyone paid him through paypal. I suspect he'll do the same again. I forget what he charged last year, but he'll fill me on pricing soon enough. Suffice to say the smaller class was more expensive than the larger class. It was also a more advanced level.

I'll be updating everyone soon.

Won't disagree with you on that one. Man i haven't been to Nasioc in years. My member number is like #248 or something crazy. 'Mumbles'.

I haven't been over there in a bit either.. Something about trading in the WRX wagon and getting the Tundra that kind of did it for me. I guess I've got a low #, 2760 as most of the folks are 80K+.

It always amazed my how much folks would drop on their cars, a couple grand for rims and tires and other upgrades, then a year later trade the rims for something else.

I can't make the weekend of 10th/11th - on "vacation" up in northern NH.

But don't plan on my behalf :)
