Why do you feel the need to switch? The grass seriously isn't much greener over here. Each brand has its advantages - kind of a "pick your poison" type thing.

There are a few reasons I want to switch. A few of my friends make short films and videos (nothing close to professional) that i want to help with and my camera takes terrible video plus a complete lack of control in video mode. Most of my friends that have cameras have Canon witch makes borrowing lenses and other accessories easier, and finally I just want a sturdier feeling camera body. I've only had mine for a few months and only have 3 lenses so it won't be a hard switch for me.

Hey guys, had a good time at the Boston Anime 2011. Check out some of the pics on kanzenstudios.blogspot.com
Angel took those pics. I didn't feel like carrying a bunch of stuff, so he was the photographer of the day.

Tempting, but I'm booked for all my nights this week so my wife would kill me.

BTW... I picked up ab AB800 and AB1600...

Gotta source a powerpack and figure out my trigger situation.

:o

Nothing yet. But I destroyed my small cheap umbrellas on Easter... didn't sand bag my stands.

I'll probably just get some Steve Kaeser brolly-boxes for now - they are a screaming deal, and will get me started until I can narrow down what I need.

Hey Jeremy, look into this: http://www.akelstudio.com …-monolights-vagabond-iii/ (external link)

There are some site that shows you how to build your own power packs. That's if you don't want to spend a whole lot.

Oh, and I need to figure out what I'm doing for triggers and power...

I use the PCB cybersyncs with great results, and they're pretty cheap. I also have a couple of the newer flex pocketwizards that I use with my speedlites when I want ETTL.

I'm in the same boat with powerpacks though. I'm considering picking up a mini-vag to see how that goes. I really wish PCB made a vag III with a lithium cell that would recycle faster and support more lights. But I suppose the mini has it's benefits too. I suppose attaching one to the lightstand allows you to just work with a studio strobe as you would a speedlite.

I don't feel like homebrewing my own powerpack. If I blew my lights because of crappy electronics resulting from my inexperience, I'd be a very unhappy dude.

My other Avenger light stand FINALLY arrived last week. I ordered it in January, and it took so long I forgot about it. I previously bought the c4050, but it is pretty big for location work, so I got the 4039. It is certainly lighter and smaller, but it still doesn't fit into my light stand bag. I guess I misread something. Oh well.

Congrats on the stands Rhomsy. Avenger is by far my favorite. I have a bunch of their different stands and love all of them. The A4050CS is a serious stand. Make sure to get the wheels for it. They are expensive, but worth it. I have two in the studio, i love them.

Thanks Brendan. The 4050cs is serious. I feel like I could extend the boom and use it for doing pull-ups. I will get the wheels, but my "studio" has such a low ceiling, that I wonder if it the added height from the wheels might cause a problem for me.
